A boy accused of the murder of Brianna Ghey has told jurors he called the teenager 'it' as a joke. Brianna, 16, a transgender girl, died after being stabbed in a park near Warrington earlier this year, a court has previously heard.
The two defendants, both aged 16, known in press reports as Girl X and Boy Y, deny murder. Girl X, from Culcheth, and Boy Y, from Leigh, cannot be named due to legal reasons.
Brianna was found by dog walkers in Linear Park in Culcheth at around 3pm on Saturday, February 11. Her bloodied body was found face down in mud, having been stabbed 28 times in the head, neck, back and chest, jurors have previously heard. READ MORE: Today's top Manchester Evening News stories READ MORE: Join the FREE Manchester Evening News WhatsApp community During the 14th day of a trial at Manchester Crown Court, during cross-examination from prosecutor, Deanna Heer KC, Boy Y was asked why he referred to Brianna as 'it' in messages exchanged with Girl X.
In his responses to the prosecutor, Boy Y typed his answers, which appeared on a screen for the jury. In text messages read to the jury, Girl X was heard to have said she was 'obsessed' with Brianna. "Also she has a d*** lol," Girl X said.
