manchestereveningnews.co.ukA teenager has been jailed for life after strangling his girlfriend to death in their home. Liam Cane, 19, was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend, Courtney Boorne, by a jury at Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday, July 19.
Courtney's screams could be heard out the window of the their 14th storey flat on Quarry Green Heights in Kirkby on December 23 last year.
Moments later her lifeless body was found on a bed by police. The 20-year-old had been strangled to death by her boyfriend. On Friday, July 21, Cain was told he must serve at least 17 years behind bars before becoming eligible for release on life licence, reports the ECHO. He showed no reaction as he appeared in court from HMP Forest Bank via videolink, while Ms Boorne's family sat tearfully in the public gallery.
Sentencing, Judge Brian Cummings KC said: "I am entirely satisfied that, for a period of an hour or more, she was in a state of fear for her life as you on at least two occasions - and probably more - strangled and or smothered her, ultimately to death. "The picture I have is of a defenceless woman terrified and calling for help before you eventually strangled or choked her to death on the bed - her final moments don’t bear thinking about.
