A teacher from Bolton has turned her life around after being told she was ‘weeks from death’ while battling anorexia. Kelly Louise Appleton, 23, was first diagnosed with the eating disorder at the age of 19 but said the isolation of the lockdown made her illness worse.
Only after psychiatrists warned Kelly that her organs would fail was she able to accept support for her illness, even telling her worried mum that she feared she was going to die before her. She says she feels "much better" with herself, and has come up with strategies to help her cope. Even though she is now classed as “recovered”, she still feels that it is something she has to manage day-by-day. “I think recovery is something that is ongoing,” Kelly said. “For some people, it can take months, and for others, it can take years.
