Staff at Greater Manchester hospitals are being told to shave off their beards to tackle spread of coronavirus

Clinical staff at hospitals in Greater Manchester are being advised to shave off their beards and facial hair to tackle the continuing spread of coronavirus.

Professor Matt Makin, medical director at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said he has asked 'all clinical staff' at North Manchester General Hospital to go clean shaven.

And the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group, which brings together the Salford Royal and Pennine Acute trusts, covering hospitals including The Royal Oldham Hospital, Fairfield General and Rochdale Infirmary, said it 'would like' clinical staff to be clean shaven 'in order to protect patients and staff as best we can'.
