Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946) is the 45th and current president of the United States. Before entering politics, he was a businessman and television personality. Trump was born and raised in the New York City borough of Queens, and received a bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton School. He took charge of his family's real-estate business in 1971, renamed it The Trump Organization, and expanded its operations from Queens and Brooklyn into Manhattan.
The company built or renovated skyscrapers, hotels, casinos, and golf courses. Trump later started various side ventures, mostly by licensing his name. He owned the Miss Universe and Miss USA beauty pageants from 1996 to 2015, and produced and hosted The Apprentice, a reality television show, from 2003 to 2015. Forbes estimates his net worth to be $3.1 billion.
Representatives from the estate of Sinéad O’Connor have said the late Irish singer would have been “disgusted, hurt, and insulted” at her version of Nothing Compares 2 U being played at political rallies hosted by Republican presidential favorite Donald Trump.
In a joint statement also signed by O’Connor’s longtime label Chrysalis Records, the singer’s estate demanded Trump “desist from using her music immediately.” “Throughout her life, it is well known that Sinéad O’Connor lived by a fierce moral code defined by honesty, kindness, fairness, and decency towards her fellow human beings,” the statement read. “It was with outrage therefore that we learned that Donald Trump has been using her iconic performance of Nothing Compares 2 U at his political rallies.
The statement continued: “It is no exaggeration to say that Sinéad would have been disgusted, hurt, and insulted to have her work misrepresented in this way by someone who she herself referred to as a ‘biblical devil.’ “As the guardians of her legacy, we demand that Donald Trump and his associates desist from using her music immediately.” Sinéad O’Connor’s estate is far from the first to speak out against Trump’s use of music at political rallies.
Artists such as Adele, Aerosmith, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Tom Petty, the estate of Prince, and the Village People are among those who have objected to the former Celebrity Apprentice host playing their music.
