Simple ways to bring electricity bills down before April as Scotland named among highest in UK

New research by energy experts, Boiler Central, has discovered that electricity costs in the north of Scotland are the second highest in the whole of the UK, with the average annual bill of £795, some £66 a month.Those households saw an increase of 7.4% in electricity prices in 2021 and paid £30 more on average than anywhere else in the UK.As millions of households start receiving letters and emails from their energy supplier, advising them how the upcoming 54% price cap hike will affect their monthly bills, Boiler Central, analysed new UK Government data from the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, to discover which areas have the most expensive electricity costs.

Southern parts of Scotland also had some of the most expensive electric bills in 2021, with the average yearly bill for a household totalling £763, some £63 a month.Commenting on the findings, Myles Robinson, energy expert at Boiler Central, said: “The explosion of electricity costs across Scotland and the UK as a whole is reaching a crisis point. “With bills about to skyrocket by a further £700 in April, it is becoming more and more impossible for families to meet these costs.”He continued: “Several areas of the UK, including North and South Scotland are already dealing with the consequences of regional differences in electricity bills. “Energy generation across the UK isn’t equally powerful - while some regions have richer sources of fossil fuels and renewable energy, some regions struggle to generate energy as well as the rest of the UK, which leads to higher costs, and consumers having to pay a higher proportion of their wage towards energy.” Here are 12 ways to start bringing down energy costs ahead of the price hike.
