Shops evacuated in Manchester city centre after 'hundreds of teenagers seen fighting' outside Arndale

Shoppers were evacuated in the city centre this afternoon after it was reported that a fight broke out between 'hundreds of teenagers'.

There remains a huge huge police presence across the city centre currently. And shops, including Marks and Spencer and Selfridges had to evacuate their customers due to the brawl, councillor Pat Karney has said.

It is understood that shoppers in the Arndale were not evacuated and the centre remains open, however other retailers on New Cathedral Street had to close. Eye witnesses told the M.E.N that a group of teenagers were seen fighting outside the Arndale centre, on Exchange Square. Shortly after, shoppers were evacuated from the Marks and Spencers shop when an alarm was sounded and saw police swarm to the area.
