A Scots HGV driver has been jailed for eight years and ten months after he killed three people in a 58mph 'fireball' crash while trawling an adult site on his phone.Romanian-born Ion Onut, 41, who lives in Galashiels, was 'looking for casual sex with strangers' on the App 'Shag Today' and another called 'Mystic Match'.A court heard he was paying no attention to the road and made no attempt to brake as he ploughed into stationary traffic in his 3.5 tonne HGV carrying a load of fertiliser.
The lorry 'turned into a fireball ' on impact as it pushed the first vehicle 100m down the motorway at Bowburn, Co. Durham, on July 15 last year.
David Daglish, 57, and his partner Elaine Sullivan, 59, from Seaham, Co Durham were killed instantly. Devoted dad Paul Mullen, 51, of Washington, Tyne and Wear, also lost his life in the carnage.
Three others suffered serious injury and psychological trauma. Onut, 41, admitted three counts of causing death by dangerous driving after Durham crown court heard he had been using his phone all day while in his cab.
