Driving through large puddles on rainy days may seem unavoidable - especially when Scotland's climate is renowned for its wet weather.
But motorists could be hit with a £5,000 fine if they splash pedestrians while travelling in damp conditions, police have revealed.
According to the Road Traffic Act 1988, it is against the law to drive “without reasonable consideration for other persons”, including “driving through a puddle causing pedestrians to be splashed”.
Driving "without reasonable consideration" is different to the offence of driving without due care and attention, as it means that a third party has been inconvenienced by your actions behind the wheel, Wales Online reports.
