An Edinburgh chef has had his life turned upside down after undiagnosed diabetes led to his leg being amputated. Stephen Myerthall, originally from Australia, has been forced to give up his job after the life-changing surgery and spent Christmas in hospital recovering.The 54-year-old had been working in city pub The Black Bull until a few weeks ago.Stephen experienced weight loss, dehydration and a more frequent need to go to the toilet but didn't think anything of it until his toe became infected.
He became unwell at work on December 14 and went to see his GP but was immediately sent straight to A&E. After going through a series of tests, Stephen was told he had undiagnosed diabetes and would have to have his big toe removed the same day.
