Road closed after fault causes canal bridge to get stuck

The Plank Lane bridge, which lifts to allow boats to pass through the Leeds and Liverpool canal, is now stuck in the lifted position, after experiencing a mechanical fault.

As traffic cannot use the route, Plank Lane has been closed, and drivers are being asked to find an alternate route. Disruption is expected to last for a while, and bus services in the area have been diverted.
