Rates of melanoma skin cancer rise much faster in men than in women

dailyrecord.co.ukskin cancer have risen by 47 % among men in the last 10 years - and have risen 30% among women, according to data from Cancer Research UK.
And while the rate of deaths among women has dropped five per cent over the same time, the death rate among men has risen by eight per cent.
Melanoma skin cancer incidence rates in men have risen from 20 cases per 100,000 people in 2005-2007 to 29 cases per 100,000 in 2015-2017, the most recent data available.
This compares to 19 cases per 100,000 people in 2005-2007 for women, rising to 25 cases per 100,000 in 2015-2017.Cancer Research UK says cases of melanoma skin cancer among men are found at a later stage than those among women - possibly because men cover their torsos more than women.Michelle.
