Pupils were kept indoors on Thursday afternoon (September 8) after a high school was put on 'lockdown' due to a police incident nearby.

The incident, which did not happen at the school but in an area nearby, caused The Westleigh School to be put on lockdown. A large police presence was also reported.

The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed by Greater Manchester Police. The school, on Westleigh Lane, Leigh, made the announcement on social media on Thursday afternoon, confirming that pupils and staff were put on lockdown.
