Prince William signed the oath to uphold the security of the Church in Scotland during the Accession Council on Saturday morning where King Charles III was formally proclaimed monarch, but fans were more interested to see him signing with his left hand.

At the accession at St James's Palace today, the new Prince of Wales, 40, and the new Queen Consort Camilla, 75, confirmed Charles as King in the moving ceremony but fans seemed bemused as William was pictured revealing he is left-handed.

Fans were quick to take to Twitter to comment on it. One wrote: “I never knew Prince William was left-handed! (as a mother of a left-hander I’ll be sure to let them know).” For all of the latest updates, sign up for OK!'s Royal newsletter.

Another shared: “Left-handed people across the world acknowledge the pain of watching Prince William use a fountain pen whilst trying to not smudge the ink everywhere.” While a third penned: “Learning a lot about the Royals watching the Accession Council but the thing I’m most fascinated about is discovering that Prince William is left-handed.” The important event was the moment when Charles was officially given the position of King even though he stepped into his new role immediately after the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday afternoon.
