Police issue update after six-year-old girl is abducted and subjected to sex attack in Tameside

A man arrested on suspicion of abducting a six-year-old girl and sexually assaulting her in Tameside has been released with no further action to be taken - with the culprit still at large - police have revealed.

The child was abducted and taken into woodland in Droylsden before being attacked at 4.10pm yesterday (Wednesday, August 17).

She was reunited with her family shortly afterwards. Last night, a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of abduction; and sexual assault and taken into custody for questioning. 'Extensive' efforts to trace the culprit - involving 'significant resources' - were ongoing, the cop leading the investigation, Detective Superintendent Richard Hunt, said at a press conference this afternoon.

The force has released three images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident. Police are 'keen to speak him as soon as possible'.
