Children aged five to 11 in the US could receive the Pfizer vaccine if the US government approves an application put forward by the firm.
Pfizer have announced that they have applied to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval to roll out the Covid jab for younger children.
The FDA will have to assess whether the vaccine would be safe enough and as effective for younger children as it is for teenagers and adults; any evidence gathered will be publicly debated by an independent expert panel on October 26.
Currently, the cut-off age is 12 for the vaccine made by Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech, but many parents and paediatricians have been demanding protection for younger children. READ MORE: Toilet roll and food
