Older drivers won't get points for careless driving offences under new proposals

Older road users could avoid prosecution for careless driving across the UK under a new scheme, according to government-funded experts.

Instead, the scheme would offer further help to elderly drivers and would conduct research to reduce deaths and serious injuries among older motorists.

The Older Drivers Task Force said in a report that assessments of driving skills should be offered to all motorists aged 70 and above who are caught committing offences such as accidentally running a red light, unnecessarily slow driving, or poor motorway lane discipline.
