An off-duty paramedic died after his 999 call was mistakenly categorised as less urgent despite his severe illness, an inquest was told.
Andrew Lightbody, a long-standing emergency responder, collapsed in his home after turning purple from a blood clot in his lung on April 19, 2020, during the first lockdown.
His partner Emma Hill, an A&E nurse, told the emergency services call handler that he had stopped breathing and was in "peri-arrest" - a code red term used for serious cases, Birmingham Live reports.
Despite this, the call-out for the 53-year-old was classed as Category 2 rather than emergency Category 1, Worcestershire Coroner's Court heard.
