The number of homeless people in Manchester is almost eight times higher than anywhere else in the North West, a new report has revealed.

A total of 6,848 people living in the city are currently without a home, according to Shelter. The charity says its analysis of official rough-sleeping and temporary accommodation figures found that one in every 81 people in Manchester is homeless - the highest rate outside the South East.

Of the city's 6,848 homeless, 6,780 were living in temporary accommodation arranged by the council as of June 30. READ MORE: Meanwhile, 68 people were sleeping on Manchester's streets on any given night.
