Nicola Sturgeon announces 221 new coronavirus cases in Scotland as no deaths recorded

Nicola Sturgeon has announced that a further 221 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Scotland in the last 24 hours.

The Scottish Government figures confirmed no people died in the last 24 hours, with the death toll sitting at 2,499. The total number of confirmed cases in Scotland now sits at 22,462 since the start of the pandemic in late March.

The number of patients with coronavirus being treated in hospital stands at 261. The latest figures come as lockdown rules in Scotland are set to be tightened again amid a rise in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases.

Nicola Sturgeon announced the new restrictions from the Scottish parliament yesterday.From Monday, people will be banned from meeting in groups of more than six from two.
