More than 200 Greater Manchester schools hit by Covid cases since start of October half term

We reported at the weekend how many feel schools are 'descending into chaos' and concerns are growing over Year 11s being expected to sit exams next year despite missing out on large chunks of classroom learning time.

Today Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham said he doubted the region would be facing tier 3 if schools had closed during the current lockdown, saying a circuit breaker would have helped schools and communities to 'reset'.

But headteachers and other leaders have told us they want schools to remain open and the government has stressed 'senior clinicians still advise that school.
