Newcastle are set to emerge as major players in the transfer market over the coming seasons, but their takeover won't come as an instant threat to Manchester United.

In a seismic £305million deal, the Magpies have new owners after a consortium backed by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) struck up an agreement with now-former chairman Mike Ashley.

It's an eye-catching move that, in effect, makes them the richest club on the planet. First up for Newcastle and interim manager Graeme Jones, though, is the prospect of a relegation battle.

Indeed, they must remain in the Premier League to keep their dreams of high-profile signings alive - but there are a few stumbling blocks in their way when it comes to transfer business, too.
