Under Guardiola’s say-so, nine players have so far departed without a fee, and David Silva in line to become the 10th at the end of the 2019/20 season.
So what has happened to the others since they left the Etihad? The decision to let Demichelis leave was probably taken before Guardiola’s arrival at the Etihad in the summer of 2016.
The veteran centre-back headed off to Espanyol, but he didn’t last long there. He made just two appearances in a half-season stay before finishing off the campaign as a semi-regular for Malaga.
