Pep Guardiola said that Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez were not fit enough to start Manchester City's game against Young Boys just days before the Manchester derby.
The City manager made seven changes from the team that beat Brighton at the weekend, with Foden and Alvarez two who dropped to the bench in Bern.
Alvarez came on for the final 25 minutes of the match, although Foden was an unused substitute. Guardiola admitted that the pitch had impacted how the team set out to play but suggested that the team selection was more to do with the fitness of his players. "We played seven new players because some were tired," said the manager.
