Legendary actor Sir Michael Caine announces retirement following latest release

Sir Michael Caine has announced his retirement from acting at the age of 90. The veteran star has appeared in more than 160 films during a career which spanned seven decades.

He has played roles in some of cinema's most iconic films, from classics like The Italian Job, to more recent blockbusters including The Dark Knight franchise.

But following the release of his latest film, The Great Escaper, Sir Michael has decided to call it a day. He told the BBC Radio 4's Today programme: “I keep saying I’m going to retire.

Well I am now.” In The Great Escaper, Sir Michael plays real-life World War Two veteran Bernie Jordan, who escaped from a care home to attend D-Day celebrations in France.
