Kilmarnock's preparations for Thursday's Europa Conference League play-off clash with FC Copenhagen could barely have gone any worse as they were beaten 1-0 in extra-time by Motherwell in the League Cup - and had to play 70 minutes with 10 men after Stuart Findlay was sent-off early in the second half.Moses Ebiye was the matchwinner for the Well as he nodded home Tawanda Maswanhise's cross six minutes into added-time to book their place in the last eight.Derek McInnes made nine changes to the side that played against Tromso on Thursday evening with only goalscorer Joe Wright and defensive partner Findlay keeping their place in the team.

That led to first starts of the season for both goalkeeper Kieran O'Hara and winger Gary Mackay-Steven.Neither side created much in the opening stages as they looked to settle into the contest.

Killie went close on 13 minutes with a counter-attacking move started by Mackay-Steven leading to Marley Watkins firing an effort across Aston Oxborough and wide of the far post.The visitors were having the better of what little play there was and Watkins went close again just before the half hour mark when Oxborough was unable to claim a Fraser Murray cross - but the striker was unable to get high enough to direct his header downwards as it flew comfortably over the bar.The Well grew into the game but created little for all the play they had in and around the Kilmarnock box.

A corner-kick that deflected off striker Zach Robinson could easily have caught out O'Hara but the Irish keeper was alert to the home side's only real chance of the first half.Killie were all at sea to start the second half with the hosts almost being presented with two goals - before Findlay saw red - inside the opening five
