Rangers are interested in bringing former Hibs star Josh Doig back to Scotland from Serie A to solve their looming left-back problem.Record Sport understands contact has been made with the 21-year-old’s club Hellas Verona who are open to cashing in on one of their prize assets 18 months after splashing out £3m to prize him from Easter Road.
Whether Rangers would be willing to meet their £5.5m valuation of the Scotland U21 star - who still has two and a half years left on his contract - remains to be seen.
But if the Ibrox club are serious about a bid they could face stiff competition from Italy where Torino and Monza are among a number of clubs also interested. The left-back area remains a concern for Philippe Clement with Borna Barisic out of contract in the summer and Ridvan Yilmaz struggling to show he is a long-term replacement for the Croatia international.
Doig, who has made 12 appearances for relegation-threatened Verona this season, broke through at Hibs under Jack Ross three years ago and has been identified as a potential solution to the problem area.He was named Scottish Football Writers’ Young Player of the Year in his maiden season in the Premiership.
