Jerry Foley Dies: Director Of ‘The Late Show With David Letterman’, Was 68

Jerry Foley, who has directed close to 4,000 hours of late-night television, has died. Foley was the longtime director of The Late Show with David Letterman.

He’s understood to have died last week as a result of ski accident at the age of 68. He worked with Letterman for over 25 years, having started as technical director of NBC’s Late Night with David Letterman before moving to CBS’ The Late Show with David Letterman.

He succeeded Hal Gurnee as director of the show in 1995 and helmed the late-night series until it ended in 2015. Foley received 21 Emmy nominations as well as nine DGA Award nominations.

In addition to The Late Show, he directed all 72 episodes of Live on Letterman, and also worked on The Alec Baldwin Show, Tony Bennett Celebrates 90: The Best Is Yet To Come and Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons: A Life on Stage.
