Wigan pub - which sits less than a ten minute walk away from the Merseyside border - has said she is "bitterly disappointed" at today's Tier 3 announcement.

Michelle Penman has run the Hare and Hounds pub in Upholland Road, Billinge, since January. During the initial lockdown, she spent around £40,000 on refurbishing it but the pub was once again forced to close when Greater Manchester was placed in Tier 3 on October 23.

As a wet-led pub, Hare and Hounds will not be allowed to open until Greater Manchester is placed in Tier 1, and Michelle fears for the future of many pubs of this kind.Get regular updates from Wigan direct to your email inbox with the free MyWigan newsletter. All you need to do is click on this link, enter your email.
