As Russia continues its conflict in Ukraine, the military assault has already resulted in a shocking number of deaths. In the early hours of Thursday morning, Russia launched a 'full-scale invasion' of Ukraine with explosions heard across major cities including the country's capital, Kyiv.

In a video address released earlier today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called those who died in the conflict "heroes". "They're killing people and turning peaceful cities into military targets.

It's foul and will never be forgiven," Mr Zelenskiy said. According to the Ukrainian president, 137 civilians and military personnel have been killed so far in the Russian invasion with 316 wounded.

UN officials reported 25 civilian deaths, mostly from shelling and air strikes, and said 100,000 people were believed to have left their homes and estimated up to four million could flee if the fighting escalates.
