Today (Friday 17 June) will be the hottest day so far this year, with temperatures peaking at a scorching 34C in some southern areas of the UK.

Greater Manchester will be swapping its typical rain for sun, with highs of 27C forecast for this afternoon as conditions remain dry but cloudy at times.

It follows two days of settled, fine weather throughout the country, with temperatures firmly in the high 20s and early 30s.

According to the Met Office, the conditions allowed 'temperatures to build day-on-day with the hottest temperatures expected to be reached by Friday for many.'
