Good news as Greater Manchester's latest Covid data is released

The number of people dying or requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 has dropped across the city-region, as new cases continue to fall.

All boroughs of Greater Manchester have seen their infection rates fall again with nine out of ten now recording an infection rate of below 1,000 new cases per 100,000 residents.

In the region as a whole, the infection rate is now 903.7 cases per 100,000 population. The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 970.4 cases per 100,000 people. The borough recorded a rate of 1,068.2 new positive cases per 100,000 people in the week ending January 17, according to the latest data from the UK Health Security Agency.
