A teenage girl has been arrested after 'the release of a gas from an aerosol can' at a south Manchester high school saw a major incident declared.
The 13-year-old has been held on suspicion of an offensive weapon and remains in custody following the drama in Wythenshawe this afternoon (Wednesday).
Pupils were evacuated and dozens of people had to be checked over by the medics - with two people being taken to hospital - following the incident at St Paul's Catholic High School. READ MORE: There was a huge emergency service presence at the school, on Firbank Road in Newall Green, with police, fire crews and ambulance crews all being scrambled shortly after 12:15pm.
The school said all pupils were evacuated as a "precaution" following the "suspected discharge of an aerosol in one area of the school." Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said its crews "quickly attended and ventilated the premises." The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said that due to the 'number of potential casualties and the resources needed at the scene' they declared a major incident.
