Funding boost for four Lanarkshire sports clubs

Four Lanarkshire sports clubs have received a funding boost from Aldi’s sports fund initiative.Waysiders RFC in Coatbridge has been granted £1000, while Avondale acro gymnastics, Hamilton Ramblers and South Lanarkshire wheelchair curling club will each receive £500.The welcome funds will go towards club costs ranging from equipment to travel, as the supermarket distributed £6500 to eight clubs across central Scotland.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

South Lanarkshire wheelchair curling club will use the money to help members with the cost of ice fees, saying: “Without the financial support from Aldi Scotland, many would not be able to afford to continue curling.” Hamilton Ramblers plan to use their £500 to fund the cost of transport for a summer outing to Dunoon, with members taking the opportunity to go for various walks and visit tourist attractions including Benmore Gardens.Set up in 2016, the fund supports “the positive impact of community sports clubs” by allowing organisations in different regions across Scotland to apply in turn for funding of up to £2500 to help with running costs.Aldi Scotland regional managing director Graham Nicolson said: “Our
