Lilibeth, forced to travel to town to settle debts, leaves María to fend for herself at a sweatshop where children sort garbage for resale. With newfound pal Tadeo by her side, María grapples with an uncertain future, dreaming up fantastic scenarios to cope with the abandonment that looms over her head like an eerily dark sky before a storm.

Jessica Kiang It’s kept deliberately vague where precisely Italian music-video director Francesco Carrozzini has set his feature debut, an adaption of the Jo Nesbø bestseller novel “Midnight Sun,” which closed a prestige-laden Venice Film Festival on an improbable note. One leans toward, maybe, Norway? But it could be Iceland or Greenland or any one of those far-flung, fjordy locales that usually turn out to belong to Denmark. It’s not like the language cues help: The dialogue is in English and the grand, windswept coastal landscapes are carefully scrubbed of signage that might, by so much as a single ‘ø,’ betray their provenance. The actors’ nationalities are less use still. Headlined by Italy’s Alessandro Borghi (“The Eight Mountains”), the rest of the cast is stacked with UK talent (Charles Dance, Peter Mullan, Jessica Brown Findlay), though we do know for sure, by the way the sun never sets and the mood is set firmly to “Nordic despair,” that we’re definitely not in either of those countries. Not to worry: Even without understanding exactly where we are, “The Hanging Sun” will feel familiar as a pair of worn-in pyjamas to anyone who has switched on a TV in the last decade. Because really, we’re in Scandiland, an amalgam location of every movie and television show from the recent “Scandi-noir” wave, a place sinister with secrets, seasonal affective disorders and Sarah Lund sweaters. 

Leo Barraclough International Features Editor The Exchange has acquired the sales rights for North America, Europe, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand and other remaining territories for superhero movie “Shin Ultraman,” a blockbuster hit in Japan when it was released on May 13. The Exchange is introducing the movie to buyers at the Toronto Film Festival. The release of the movie, produced by Tsuburaya Productions, Toho and Khara, marked the 55th anniversary of the original “Ultraman” TV series. It grossed $31.2 million in Japan. The movie was directed by Shinji Higuchi (“The Floating Castle,” “Attack on Titan”) and was written by director and screenwriter Hideaki Anno (“Shin Godzilla,” “Neon Genesis Evangelion”), who also acted as producer alongside Takayuki Tsukagoshi and Minami Ichikawa.

Naman Ramachandran Those wishing to view the late Queen Elizabeth II Lying-in State from Sept. 14, will have to face long queues and airport-style security, guidelines issued by the U.K.’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) have warned. During the Lying-in-State period, the Queen’s closed coffin will rest on a raised platform, known as a catafalque, inside Westminster Hall in the Palace of Westminster, aka the Houses of Parliament. Members of the public attending will file past the catafalque to pay their respects. “If you wish to attend the Lying-in-State, please note that there will be a queue, which is expected to be very long. You will need to stand for many hours, possibly overnight, with very little opportunity to sit down as the queue will be continuously moving,” state the DCMS guidelines.

Kelly will pay nearly $30,000 (£25,000) in court fines and victim restitution from his personal prison commissary, it has been ruled.Per reports in Billboard and Rolling Stone, on Friday (September 9), a federal judge ruled that money in Kelly’s prison account could be seized by the prosecution team to pay required fees.The prosecution said (via Billboard): “The defendant has amassed nearly $30,000 in his inmate trust account over the course of the last three years of incarceration.“The defendant has not made any payments towards the substantial criminal monetary penalties imposed upon him at sentencing, even though payment was due immediately.”The ruling was handed down by U.S.

Buckingham Palace is regarded as Monarchy HQ and Charles III has already held a series of audiences with Prime Minister Liz Truss, cabinet ministers and Realm High Commissioners at the famous London landmark. The £369 million reservicing programme at the historic building is spanning 10 years, and includes updating the electrical cabling, plumbing and heating.

Carol Vorderman has said the death of Queen Elizabeth II is a loss which has reminded her of losing her own mother. After watching Queen Elizabeth II's coffin begin its journey from Balmoral to Edinburgh on Sunday, the presenter took to her Instagram to share her grief for the late Sovereign.
