Ferguslie community hub launches £25k fund for neighbourhood groups

A bustling Ferguslie Park community hub is urging groups in the area to apply for a share of £25,000 funding to help reduce isolation and increase health and well-being.Returning for its second year, the Good Ideas Fund is run by a panel of local people who decide on the eligibility and priorities of the fund.Once all of the ideas have been received these are shortlisted and put to local people who can vote on their favourite, with those gaining the most votes receiving a share of £25,000.This is known as Participatory Budgeting and is an innovative form of grant giving that ensures local people have more of a say in what happens in their local community.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.Thanks to funding from the Scottish Government’s Investing in Communities programme, the Tannahill Centre has distributed £75,000 to community projects to date via participatory budgeting, with ideas such as play parks, recycling projects and community events all being supported and the centre is now inviting those with good ideas to submit theirs using an application form that can be downloaded from its twitter and Facebook pages.Last year a group of local people formed the Ferguslie Events Team and successfully applied for £1,000 to run a number of community events to bring people together after the pandemic.Jackie Carter who volunteers with the group said: “During lockdown we banded together to help one another out.“As lockdown got longer and longer we decided to organise outdoor socially distanced bingo, this then grew to getting fish suppers for everyone and all of a sudden we were organising street parties for older people, Halloween events for the kids and Christmas treats
