The cast of Emmerdale were all smiles as they accepted their award for Best Serial Drama at tonight's National Television Awards. The popular show beat out its fellow soaps, EastEnders, Neighbours, and Hollyoaks, winning the coveted award, with the cast appearing somewhat shocked at this. The award, the last of the night, went to the long-running soap and made 2022 a year for double celebrations as Emmerdale is also enjoying its 50th year on our screens.
Taking to the stage the cast members seemed rather surprised at their win, declaring they would be celebrating after the ceremony has finished, with "beer, beer, and more beer." And the cast seemed to invite the ceremony's host Joel Dommett along to their celebrations, which he certainly seemed pleased about.
Alongside their big win, the cast also received a surprise earlier in the awards ceremony as King Charles appeared on video to discuss his love of the soap. The new monarch, 73, filmed the pre-recorded clip earlier this year, while still in the role of Prince of Wales.
He congratulated the team on their half a century, as well as their work around sustainability both on and off screen and their ability to entertain as well as inform.
