Netball star Emily Nicholl says three weeks in Australia was “a dream come true” as she spent time with her idols at West Coast Fever in Perth.Nicholl, from Biggar, went straight to the Suncorp Super Netball Premiership champions from Scottish Thistles finishing second at the Spar Diamond Challenge in South Africa.Netball Scotland ran some blogs about the 28-year-old’s time down under, titled ‘Emily in Australia’ as a nod to the popular Netflix show ‘Emily in Paris’.Nicholl admits she found the whole thing daunting at first, heading into the unknown, but says she quickly made some good friends and learned a lot from the experience.“Australia was a dream come true, it was absolutely amazing,” she said.“The weather was fantastic, and just being in a Suncorp environment was such good exposure.“The club was so welcoming and the girls...

I thought they would be really scary, but they were actually really lovely.“I was a nervous going into it, because it’s the first time I’ve ever travelled alone, and I was going into an environment where I didn’t know anyone.“You hold these girls up on such a pedestal that it’s like meeting your idols, really, but within five minutes they were all super lovely to me and so genuine throughout the whole time.“They had so much time for me, which made me feel really welcome.“I made some good friends there, and it’s funny, because some of the girls at Thistles and Sirens were like ‘OMG, I can’t believe you’re friends with [Olympic athlete] Courtney Bruce, or somebody like that, so it’s surreal.“Looking from their perspective, it seems like such a faraway thought, but the biggest thing I noticed is that they are just people like us.“They just live in a different country and are better at netball
