Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum thanked veterans for their service on Saturday.The Heathhall attraction staged its annual airborne forces day with former servicemen and women invited to the site.Members of the public also turned out to show support with talks on the day from veterans and museum volunteers.

They were given demonstrations of weapon cleaning, kit and talks on the various forces.Charlie Ewing, one of the directors and volunteers at the museum, said: “It was a really good day.

It was perfect.“The weather was maybe just a little bit too hot but overall it was a great day.“We had a good turnout. We had a good number of veterans along from different branches of the military.

We had the Paras and the Royal Marines and we saw some blokes we’ve not seen before which is good and things are expanding from that point of view.“We had a number of families there.
