Hot on the heels of the record-breaking conclusion of the fourth season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” creators Matt and Ross Duffer have formed a new shingle called Upside Down Pictures and have recommitted to their current streaming home.
The ambitious inaugural slate for Upside Down Pictures includes a live-action spin-off of the flagship series created and developed by the Duffers; an adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub’s “The Talisman,” which they will produce alongside their hero Steven Spielberg; a British stage play set within the world of “Stranger Things;” and a new adaptation of Japanese manga/anime “Death Note” (previously adapted by Netflix into the underrated 2017 Adam Wingard live-action movie).
All of this on top of having to finish “Stranger Things” with the upcoming fifth (and final) season.Among the projects in development, Netflix announced: an all-new live-action television adaptation of the renowned Japanese manga and anime series “Death Note;” an original series from creators Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (“Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance”); a series adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub‘s beloved 1984 novel “The Talisman” to be created by Curtis Gwinn (a co-executive producer and writer on “Stranger Things”) and co-produced by Amblin Entertainment and Paramount Television (the amount of former rightsholders and current stakeholders must be immense); a new stage play set within the world and mythology of “Stranger Things,” produced by prolific UK-based stage producer Sonia Friedman, Stephen Daldry and Netflix.
