UK motorists have been warned to check the back of their driving licence to ensure they’re legally qualified to drive their vehicle of choice.

Depending on when you passed your test, you may need further qualifications in order to use certain vehicles. Motorists who are found driving a vehicle which is not covered by their licence could invalidate their insurance, Liverpool Echo reports.

The types of vehicles that drivers can legally operate also vary as those who have passed their driving test more recently are limited to a small range of vehicles, experts from Quotezone.co.uk have warned.

The law changed over the years to restrict what motorists can drive with a standard UK licence. On January 1, 1997, drivers were required to take additional tests to legally drive category A,C and D vehicles (motorcycles, vans and lorries), in a bid to make the roads safer.
