Dedicated former teacher celebrates MBE from the Queen

A dedicated former teacher who grew up in West Lothian has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Platinum Honours.Claire Lavelle was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours for services to the wellbeing of students, teachers and staff in education.Claire grew up in West Lothian in Kettilstoun Mains in Linlithgow.She attended St Joseph’s Primary and went on to St Mary’s in Bathgate, where she was head girl.

She also was gala queen of Linlithgow in 1986 and dowager queen in 1987.Claire said that she is “delighted to be recognised, as she feels she is receiving this honour on behalf of all the educators who were working tirelessly right around the clock during the pandemic, to educate children”.Claire left St Mary’s Academy and went on to study psychology at St Andrew’s University where she won a bursary for exceptional achievement representing West Lothian.She graduated with MA (Hons) and went on to do a Postgraduate Qualification at Glasgow University.After completing her studies, Claire went on to teach in Madrid, then returned to teach in West Lothian, Edinburgh and East Lothian, eventually becoming a head teacher, graduating from Edinburgh University with the SQH diploma in Leadership and Management, and eventually becoming a Quality Improvement Officer.She left the UK to experience teaching methods abroad and became head of a school in Abu Dhabi owned by the Royal Family.She returned after three years and decided to set up her own business, supporting teachers with their wellbeing and mental health called The Hive of Well-being, which grew to work with, hundreds of teaching establishments throughout Scotland including the General Teaching Council and Education Scotland.As well as running her business online,
