David Castañeda & Sharon Duncan-Brewster Board Lionsgate’s ‘Ballerina’ Amid Reshoots
deadline.comEXCLUSIVE: Lionsgate‘s female-driven John Wick spinoff Ballerina has added David Castañeda (The Umbrella Academy) and Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Sex Education) to its cast amid reshoots abroad, Deadline can reveal.
Word of the castings comes at a newsy time in the world of John Wick, as word has emerged of a Wick series in the works, alongside an animated series adaptation of Twilight, with prequel miniseries The Continental set to launch on Peacock September 22nd.
Ballerina watches as a young female assassin (Ana de Armas) trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma seeks revenge against the people who killed her family — as did Wick against those who have did him wrong, in films released between 2014 and 2019.
After signing a new deal with Lionsgate expanding his oversight of the John Wick franchise, of which he was the architect, Chad Stahelski is working with Ballerina helmer Len Wiseman to shape new action sequences for the film.
