Council swoops on crumbling South Ayrshire cinema

Council bosses are gearing up to buy a crumbling empty cinema in Girvan. The former vogue cinema is in a state of disrepair and has been abandoned for more than a decade.

South Ayrshire Council plans to purchase the building and land for £80,000 before demolishing it. Eventually affordable homes could be erected on the site.

Residents have complained about pigeons and rats infesting the old bingo hall, which is in private ownership. A council paper said: “The cinema property itself is currently in very poor condition and there are concerns that unless significant work is carried out in the near future it is possible that the Council will have to take action under dangerous building powers.”The Art Deco cinema on Dalrymple Street was
