One of the most popular shows in the world right now, no one is really sure when Outlander will end. The much-anticipated season 6 arrives in March while producer Maril T Davies has confirmed work has already begun on an extended season 7.

Set to air in 2023, could the season after next be the last?Starz confirmed season 7 in Spring 2021, with the network keen to milk what has become a major cash cow for them.Plans beyond the latest confirmed season have yet to be confirmed but with author Diana Gabaldon planning at least ten novels, could we see ten seasons in total?Caitriona, who plays the shows leading lady Claire Fraser, has become a producer on the show and even hinted she'd love to direct an episode.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, she hinted that the tenth anniversary of her starting the show falls in 2023, and season 7 could be the ideal way to wrap up the show.

When asked about how long the show will go on for, she admitted she wasn't sure but added: “We will have hit the almost 10-year mark by the end of that [filming season 7], which feels like a nice kind of time frame, but we don’t know."Those decisions are far above my pay grade.”Caitriona has said in the past that if the story can remain exciting (which judging by fans' recent reaction to book nine Go Tell The Bees is anything to go by it certainly will) and engaging for the cast then they would happily keep going.And at the Television Critics’ Association press tour in early 2019, executive producer Maril Davis spoke about how long she believes the show will go on for."We'll keep making this until Claire and Jamie are a hundred," she exclaimed.
