Impressive footage captures cool-headed pilots skilfully landing planes as storms battered Manchester Airport on Sunday. Dramatic video clips show aircraft rocking side to side as approached the runway during torrential downpours.

A compilation video put together by an aviation enthusiast AviationUpclose, captured various hair-raising moments when nerveless pilots had to rely on all their skill and experience to wrestle the cross winds and bring their planes down safely.

There were also four 'go arounds' on Sunday - an aborted landing during the final approach - mainly due to the weather conditions. AviationUpclose said: "There were some absolutely spectacular moments. "From the A380 battling both crosswinds and a torrential shower, an easyJet A320 that nearly landed off the left hand side of the runway (just look at the point of touchdown compared to the centreline), an exceptionally rocky approach from a TUI 737-800 in amazing sunlight and the pilots of the tiny Eastern Airways Jetstream 41 doing a fantastic job wrestling the gusts. "There were four go arounds through the time I was there, three of which were quite early on the approach and one being pretty much right above me."
