A car has ploughed into a street sign following a two-car crash on a busy Fife road. Cops were scrambled to Standing Stane Road, which links Kirkcaldy with Windygates on the outskirts of Methil, shortly before 3pm on today.

Two vehicles were involved in the smash, though details of how it occurred have not been disclosed.Cops partially closed the notorious A915 as they dealt with the crash. An image posted online page showed one of the vehicles involved had ploughed into a road sign. The light turquoise vehicle was heavily damaged in the collision. The condition of the other vehicle, and of the occupants of both cars, is unknown.

Standing Stane Road is one of Fife's accident blackspots. The council sought to reduce the number of collisions on the five-and-a-half mile-long road earlier this year by introducing warning signs at its junctions.

A Police Scotland spokesperson was unable to provide details of any injuries. They said: "Around 2.55pm, police were called to a report of a two-vehicle road crash on Standing Stane Road, Kirkcaldy."Officers attended to assist and the vehicles are being recovered."
