Several of Spain's most popular holiday hotspots have been placed under weather warnings this week as a bout of stormy weather takes hold.The entire island of La Palma is under alert, as well as islands in the Canaries including Tenerife and Gran Canaria.Weather warnings have been issued by Spain's weather agency The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), which kicked off yesterday and are set to continue as the week goes on.
The Express reports that a yellow warning for wind in Tenerife and La Palma began on Monday January 15 at 6pm. The wind warning will be raised to orange level today, Tuesday January 16, and will remain in place until at least 9pm.
Areas in the north of Tenerife are expected to see the worst of the impacts, with the warning covering regions on high ground as well as central summits.
Gusts are expected to reach 90km/h in La Palma and higher areas of Tenerife. The rest of Tenerife will be under a yellow weather warning on Tuesday.Gran Canaria, La Gomera and El Hierro will also be under a yellow weather warning on Tuesday, January 16.Aemet has also activated a yellow warning for rain in La Palma on Tuesday, according to Canarian Weekly, with 15mm per hour expected in the east of the island.
