Cache of mobile phones seized and three arrested as part of investigation into a surge of thefts in Manchester city centre

Police investigating a spate of mobile phone thefts in Manchester city centre have seized 49 devices and arrested three suspects during a swoop.

They uncovered the phones following a raid at an address on Monday and arrested three men on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

The operation is part of a continuing investigation into an increasing number of thefts from people in Manchester city centre. Inspector Glen Rees, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: "Mobile phone theft has become a real concern in recent months, and protecting the public who are simply going about their day is a top priority for our team. "Though we are doing everything we can to prevent and reduce this type of crime, there are things members of the public can do to protect their belongings - like not leaving them on tables, being aware of surroundings, and keeping phones out of sight when they're not in use.
