Brakes put on speeders as they pass church and care home

Families visiting church and and old folks in a home are to be spared from speeding drivers.The twisting section of countryside road that passes Bishopton Parish Church and the Ailsa Lodge Care Home has been plagued by fast driving.The B815 Ferry Road iss used as a non motorway short-cut between Erskine and Bishopton.Now a series of speed reducing measurers are to be put on the road, which has a 40mph limit.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.The area’s MSP Natalie Don MSP - who also remains a Renfrewshire councillor until May - confirmed the go-ahead has been given for the traffic calming.She said it would improve safety for both church-goers and residents, staff and people visiting Ailsa Lodge.Rumble strips will be fixed to both sides of the carriageway and ‘SLOW’ road markings will be emblazoned before the church and neighbouring care home.A new elderly pedestrians warning sign and a side road warning sign with a yellow backing board will replace the existing signs.The MSP for Renfrewshire North and West has been in discussion with constituents and the council and is delighted that progress is now being made to improve road safety in the area.Natalie Don MSP said: “Our faith groups have been especially important at maintaining community spirit throughout the pandemic and I appreciate the work that they’ve done to ensure that Covid-19 guidelines were followed to allow the public to continue worshipping.“While staff at the church and care home have fulfilled their responsibility to ensure safety inside, the council has a remit to establish a safe environment for the general public in the areas surrounding the buildings.“I’m delighted that the council has acted upon
